Here’s our Super Bowl 55 Recap of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 31-9 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. This Super Bowl LV recap recounts how the Buccaneers, playing on their home field at Raymond James Stadium, dominated the Chiefs on offense and defense, with the game just about in hand during the third quarter.

The Buccaneers won their last eight games of the 2020-2021 season, including a four-win playoff run to give Brady his record seventh Super Bowl championship in his 10th appearance. Tampa Bay’s depth on offense and defense finally paid off with the arguable greatest quarterback in NFL history under center.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31, Kansas City Chiefs 9

Super Bowl 55: Summary

The Buccaneers employed brilliant plans on both sides of the ball. Tom Brady solidified his case as the Greatest Of All Time with a 201-yard, 3-touchdown performance at 43 years old.

He found his BFF Rob Gronkowski for two touchdowns as Brady picked apart a Chiefs secondary that played most of the game on its heels.

Some penalty calls and a myriad of drops by receivers nullified spurts of Kansas City momentum, but the patchwork offensive line had no answer for Tampa Bay’s defense.

The Chiefs’ offensive line was playing without starting left tackle Eric Fisher (torn Achilles’) and was dealing with other inactive along the front five. Tampa Bay’s Shaquil Barrett and his cohorts along the D-line had Patrick Mahomes running for his life and coming up short on the box score (270 yards, 2 interceptions).

The Bucs helped run the clock in the second half by an activated run game with Leonard Fournette (89 yards, 46 receiving yards, 1 TD) and Ronald Jones  (61 rushing yards).

Travis Kelce (10 catches, 133 yards) and Clyde Edwards-Helaire (87 scrimmage yards) provided high spots for a Chiefs offense that mustered just three field goals from Harrison Butker.

Super Bowl 55 MVP

Unsurprisingly, the winning quarterback took home the award. It’s Brady’s record fifth Super Bowl MVP. “Tom Brady To Win Super Bowl MVP" was (+200) at PointsBet.

Super Bowl 55: Difference-Making Matchup

The Buccaneers defensive line overwhelmed the Chiefs’ injury-riddled offensive line.

A national Super Bowl audience got to see how dominant the 2019 NFL sack leader can be, along with longtime stellar pass-rusher Jason Pierre-Paul and interior linemen Vita Vea and Ndamokung Suh.

A joint plan was how well Tampa Bay’s secondary quieted the dangerous Tyreek Hill, holding him to just 7 catches for 73 yards, with most of that production coming when the game is out of hand.

The sum of those two factors limited Mahomes’ time to throw and remain in the pocket.
