Ole Miss vs Auburn Predictions NCAAF Week 9 | College Football Pick of the Day

Last Updated: Oct 27, 2021

We have a battle of two ranked teams in Week 9 of the college football season with the Ole Miss Rebels hitting the road to square off with the Auburn Tigers. Ole Miss comes into this game as the No. 10 ranked team in the nation, while Auburn is currently the No. 18 ranked team.

The Rebels have strung together three straight wins following their 21-point drubbing by Alabama back on October 2nd. As for the Tigers, they were able to get back in the win column last week after a 24-point defeat to Georgia two weeks ago.

These are two teams that operate quite differently. Ole Miss would prefer to put the ball in their quarterback’s (Matt Corral) hands to create plays. On the other side of the field, Auburn would be content if they didn’t need to lean on Bo Nix through the air.

Who will emerge victorious in this showdown between two ranked teams in the SEC?

Keep reading below to find out my prediction for the contest and what my favorite bets are in the upcoming game between Ole Miss and Auburn in Week 9 of the college football season.

Ole Miss vs. Auburn Prediction

A win over Auburn would do wonders for Ole Miss’ hopes of making a case to make the college football playoffs. While Ole Miss did get blown out by Alabama, they would have the same number of losses and a victory over a ranked opponent in the SEC if they were to defeat Auburn on Saturday night.

Beating Auburn is going to be easier said than done, though, as the Tigers possess a rushing attack that could give the Rebels trouble on defense. Tank Bigsby leads the way for Auburn in the backfield with 526 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 102 rushing attempts this season.

Jarquez Hunter is a nice No. 2 option for the Tigers, producing 492 yards and three touchdowns on only 57 carries. And while the running game of Auburn is the primary focus, Nix has taken care of the football better than in previous seasons, tossing just two interceptions thus far.

With Lane Kiffin at the helm for Ole Miss, they have one of the most dynamic offenses in college football. Corral is the engine to the offense at quarterback with 1,913 yards, 15 passing touchdowns, and one interception. He also leads the team in rushing with 474 yards and nine rushing touchdowns on 100 attempts.

Auburn has a defense that can slow down Ole Miss on the ground, limiting opponents to 124.29 rushing yards per game. This game could come down to whether the offense of the Rebels can have success against the stout defense of the Tigers.

Even though Ole Miss has shown signs of being the better team at times, I’ll give the slight edge to Auburn at home.

Prediction: Auburn 31, Ole Miss 27

Ole Miss vs. Auburn Best Bets

Best Bet: Auburn -2.5 (-110) at Caesars

Wager: 1 Unit

Ole Miss aren’t strangers to playing in wild games this season, having escaped with narrow wins over Arkansas and Tennessee in the past month. This week, I expect Ole Miss and Auburn to remain close throughout, setting the Rebels up for another insane finish in Week 9.

Corrall hasn’t turned the ball over much this season, and Ole Miss as a team has just four turnovers, but Auburn can induce pressure on the dynamic quarterback.

With Auburn’s defense taking care of business when they need to, Nix won’t need to do much on offense as he’ll be handing the ball off to Bigsby and Hunter often on Saturday. The blend of a dominant rushing attack and a defense that can make stops when needed is the recipe for success for the Tigers.

I’ll take Auburn at -2.5 on Saturday Night as Ole Miss is 2-8-2 against the spread in their last 12 games versus Auburn, and they are 1-6 straight up against the Tigers on the road in their last seven meetings as the visitors.

Best Bet: Under 66 (-110) at Caesars

Wager: 1 Unit

Whenever you watch Ole Miss, you tend to believe that they are going to get into shootouts nearly every week. However, in the past two weeks, the Rebels have failed to surpass a total of 57 total points in their games.

With that in mind, do I expect Ole Miss and Auburn to score 67+ points with the defense of the Tigers surrendering only 19.71 points per game? Absolutely not. Yes, Ole Miss is going to hit on a few big plays, but they aren’t going to be able to score enough to reach this total.

The Rebels have hit the under in four out of their last six meetings when facing an opponent from the SEC. I expect the Tigers to try and control the time of possession by pounding the rock, which will slightly limit the number of points scored on Saturday night.
