MLB Betting Pick of the Day: Best Baseball Pick Today 8/9/21

Cincinnati Reds @ Cleveland Indians (6:10 p.m. ET)

  • Probable Pitchers: CIN RHP Luis Castillo @ CLE LHP Sam Hentges

Reds Over 2.5 Runs In First Five Innings (-130)

Wager: 1.20 units

Cincinatti’s offense is at full strength and it’s a scary sight for opposing pitchers.

Just recently, Mike Moustakas and Nick Castellanos returned from injuries. While those two were out, other guys such as Kyle Farmer stepped up while Joey Votto caught fire. Cincy’s already-deep lineup will also benefit from having the designated hitter in this interleague contest at Cleveland.

Tonight, they’ll be looking to feast on lefty Sam Hentges, who’s been getting roughed up in his rookie season. The 25-year-old is just 1-4 with a 7.86 ERA and 2.01 WHIP in 17 appearances (eight starts) this year. This will also be his first start in more than a month, as he was demoted in July and has made only two appearances out of the bullpen since returning.

The Reds, meanwhile, have been one of the hottest teams in baseball over the past several weeks. They’ve scored at least five runs in 14 of their last 16 games and are 12-4 during that span. Over the last 14 days, they’re batting .292/.370/.563 as a team and are firing on all cylinders offensively.

All signs point to Cincinnati doing some serious damage against an overmatched Hentges, making them good bets to score at least three runs during the first five innings.
